January 5: ENTER INTO HIS REST, NOT YOURS

Daily Companion | 5 January

ENTER INTO HIS REST, NOT YOURS

He that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works. Hebrews 4:10

A construction site worker had just had a break. He decided to go to a nearby restaurant to buy a cup of coffee and ease himself. He asked the restaurant attendant; “can I use your restroom please?” “Sure, down the hallway to your right sir,” answered the attendant. The construction worker deciding to use a restaurant restroom is a similitude to today’s focal verse: at no additional fee to use the restroom. It was free. It was also comforting and relieving.

Christ beckoned, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

Irrespective of your vocation or employment status, you still labour. To students, workers, unemployed labouring day and night to secure job, Christ says ‘Take a break’. Only Christ can do this for you free of charge! Beyond work, there are burden of sins, financial difficulties, spiritual problems, mental stress etc. Christ says, come unto me. Some tend to create unhealthy, sinful rest for themselves by entering beer parlour, brothel to think they want ‘lighten up’. This a way of destruction because they end up with heavier burdens. Your Creator wouldn’t want you to do that. He wants you to enter His rest, not yours! All that is needed is asking in faith. You must believe. Being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ… (Romans 5:1).We which have believed do enter into rest (Hebrews 4:3). This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing (Isaiah 28:12). Come to Christ today, you will find refreshing rest.
