"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." —Romans 12:1
A renowned heart surgeon once shared an unforgettable story about one of his patients—a young boy who had undergone a life-saving heart transplant. After the surgery, the boy asked, “Doctor, will I ever stop taking the medications?” The surgeon looked at him with compassion and replied, “These medications are not a burden; they’re your gift. They’re what keep your new heart healthy and strong. You’ll take them as long as you live.
”This story mirrors our spiritual journey. Just as the boy’s medications sustained his life, we too must nurture our spiritual health daily. Sin, like a genetic ailment, has infected all of humanity: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Yet, Christ Jesus offers the ultimate cure—salvation through His sacrifice. However, salvation is not the end; it’s the beginning of a lifelong commitment. Just as the boy needed daily care for his heart, we must nurture our souls through devotion. How do we do this?
Do you still struggle with sin? Go to the Great Physician in prayer today. He not only saves but sustains. Like the boy with the new heart, let us embrace the gift of life Christ has given us and commit to daily devotion.
