GIVING & GETTING THE BEST IN MARRIAGE (PART VI)

Ephesians 5:25-28. 505. 4:7 1Corinthians 10:29-33. 1Peter 4:11

A Christian wedding is a reminder of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb, when Christ and the Saints in fine linen, clean and white shall be joined together, forever! Revelation 19:7-9. Christ Marriage must therefore bear the image and resemblance of that which is holy and heavenly. Not to be done with excesses of wantonness and drunkenness (Romans 13:10-14), but in love and fear of God, doing that which is honourable, praise worthy and excellent in the sight of God. Philippians 4:8-9.

IV: THE FOCUS OF CHRISTIAN WEDDING

Malachi 1:6, Psalm 45:7-17, Revelations 19:6-9, John 2:1-11.

In the wedding at Cana of Galilee we read John 2:11, “This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory; and his disciples believed on him.” The Lord Jesus at this time brought to focus his utmost desire in every marriage, which is “His glory”, so that people may believe in Him.

Christian Wedding is such an important and glorious celebration that must be done with all modesty and honour to attract “Christ” in all His dignity and Excellency. The first question to ask when planning a wedding is whether Christ will be ready to attend in all His holiness and majesty? Therefore, orderliness and decency with all moderation must be observed to crown the joy of the day and the marriage throughout the union. Philippians 4:4-7

(1.) Wedding is done one day, but the marriage is to last throughout lifetime! (Mathew 19:14-6) The wedding day should be a beginning of new joy, wonders and miracles. (John 2:11). Anything that will give offence to the Lord, the church and the world must be avoided altogether (2Corinthians 6:3). Let the remembrance of your wedding bring joy to mankind and glory to God and the saints 1Thessalonians 2:20; 2Corinthians 7:4.

(2.) The Christian wedding consists of three important parts:

(i) Notification and certification from government (Notice are normally filled for 21 days for public awareness as required by law of the nation (ii) Payment of dowry or the wife. (Genesis 24:50-54). This is very important and not optional at all Songs of Solomon 8:2. (iii) Covenant exchange and blessing of the marriage in the presence of God and the church as a witness to the solemnity and joy of the union. Genesis 2: 21-25, Ruth 4:13-17. Many or few people can be present depending on the choice of the couple.

(3.) It is a day of joy and sober reflection as well. Joy for being privileged to be partaker of grace and of the noble institution as set up by God (Psalm 145:15-17) soberness as to seek God’s presence and help to make the union successful and victorious all the way through Genesis 28:19-22, John 15:5-8.

(4.) Celebrate your wedding according to your means and ability. 1 Corinthians 16:2. Do not go into debt in a bid to impress or do like others. 2Corinthians 10:12-13. Avoid all excesses. Rejoice and celebrate within the circumference of holiness, righteousness and self-control. Galatians 5:19-26; 1Thessalonians 5:22.

(5.) Your wedding day must be the beginning of new journey and living with your spouse. 2Corinthians 5:17. Do not return to your parent house for whatever reason. This helps to avoid distractions and vain traditions of cultures. It is time to live and cleave together in love, joy and prayers to God glory. Proverb 5:15-21.

(6.) The place of prayer before, during and after the wedding must not be downplayed!11. Satan is not happy at all. Not everyone that seems smiling and happy is truly wishing you well! Vigilant, watchfulness and prayer are true armour of victory. Ephesians 6:10-12. Soak the event, the wedding day, the gift items received (sometimes, it is better to let others collect for you), and all the participants into blood of Jesus. Stand on the word and promises of God. And be not terrified by the adversary Romans 16:20, Philippians 1:28. Trust and rely on ‘s faithfulness and power to keep. Isaiah 26:3

(7.) Remember your home is central to your peace, health, success, exploits, ministry, joy and wellbeing! Genesis 1:27, 28. Aside your faith and personal walk with God, your family is the most important. Therefore do everything God has put within your reach to make yourself and your house the best possible. Ephesians 5:25-28. In every time and season, work on your marriage and trust God for help and sustenance. 1Thessalonians 5:24. Jude. 1:24-25. Amen

Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.

Make friends of God’s children, help those who are weak,

Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek

2. Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;

Spend much time in secret, with Jesus alone.

By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;

Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

3. Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide;

And run not before Him, whatever betide.

In joy or in sorrow, still follow the Lord,

And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word

4. Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul,

Each thought and each motive beneath His control.

Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,

Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.
