PEACE AND QUIET

Ye are not as yet come to the rest and to the inheritance, which the Lord your God giveth you.Deuteronomy 12:9

A few years ago, a young man received a call while in the busy city centre of Lagos, Nigeria. It was so noisy that he couldn’t hear the caller clearly. “Sorry, I can’t hear you properly. It's too noisy here. I will call you back later." He hung up the phone. An hour later, when he got to his suburb home, he called back. His words were, Hello, "it's peace and quiet here."

Life here on earth is like a ‘noisy and busy city’. You may be hustling and labouring, yet you’re misunderstood by others because of the ‘noises’. Don’t burn yourself out to hell. Remember God's word: you’re yet to come to your resting place. While it is essential to work to earn a good income in order to feed, clothe and shelter yourself, be reminded that you are just a sojourner here in this world. You are on a journey that may end either in heaven or hell.

Hell is noisy and filled with groanings and torment. The noises of mourning, shouts of war and agony of diseases that filled the present world will be replaced with peace and quiet. A steady and conscious preparation for your final destination to heaven without or less distractions should be your utmost priority. When in a position of authority, remember it is just for a seasonWhen money or relative comfort come to you, remember God’s word to Israel: …this [world] is not your rest (Micah 2:10). Why? The world is ephemeral and so is your life and possession. Before you know it, you will also be gone.

But there is good news! There remains therefore a rest to the people of God (Hebrews 4:9). Christ has gone up to prepare a place of rest for all believers as He said, "Where I am, there ye may be also (John 14:2, 3). Simply accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour today to start a new life of peace and quiet. Watch, pray and Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth (Colossians 3:2).

Today’s Recite: Lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Matthew 6:2021.

Today’s Morning Prayer: 1. Heavenly Father, I thank You for the gift of life. Thank You for giving us Jesus Christ to redeem us and give us eternal life in heaven. 2. Lead me to Your rest oh Lord. While I sojourn here on earth, may I not burn out in Jesus' mighty name.3. Grant me Your grace to live a balanced life without compromising my final rest. I ask all in Jesus name. Amen!4. Help me to watch and pray.

Today’s Hymn: Christian Seek Not Yet Repose
