September 26: BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL

Daily Companion  | 26 September

BUT DELIVER US FROM EVIL

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. (Matthew 6:13).

One of the cardinal prayer points our Lord Jesus taught the disciples in the Mount Olives is the deliverance from all evil. As humans, we are fallible and vulnerable. It is important to acknowledge this by requesting God’s help.

Seeking protection from the influence of evil is a recognition of the power of evil in the world and a desire to be shielded from its effects on our spiritual, family and socioeconomic well-being. He shall deliver you in six troubles, Yes, in seven no evil shall touch you. (Job 5:19) It is a cry for rescue to break free from the bondage of sin and its consequences. It is a plea for deliverance from all forms of evil, including both spiritual and moral evil and anything that opposes God's will and obstructs our relationship with Him.

God has sovereignty and power over all forms of evil. We need His wisdom and strength to navigate the challenges and temptations we face on a daily basis. And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen! (2 Timothy 4:18).

Beloved, we need to align our will with God's; desire to follow His ways and live in obedience to His commands. You must invite God to transform you from the inside out. Finally, God's faithfulness in delivering His people from the tyranny of evil is never brought into question. We have hope and confidence in His ability to do the same for us today.

Today’s Recite: To deliver you from the way of evil, from the man who speaks perverse things, (Proverbs 2:12).

Today’s Morning Prayer: Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, As it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, Forever and ever. Amen.
