"A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.” Luke 12:15
Benjamin was seen as successful by many but beneath the extravagant facade, he lived a rather lonely and unfulfilled existence. Despite his wealth, he felt a constant emptiness in his heart. One day, while strolling through the park near his mansion, Benjamin noticed an elderly man sitting on a bench with a display of a sense of contentment that Benjamin had never witnessed before. When approached by Benjamin, Samuel shared inspiring stories of his youthful adventures building community life with people. As Benjamin listened intently to Samuel's story, he began to realize that the elderly man's happiness did not come from material possessions, but from the connections he had fostered with others.
In the weeks that followed, Benjamin embarked on a journey of self-discovery. He began to spend less time pursuing material wealth and more time investing in relationships. He reconnected with old friends, made new ones, and dedicated himself to helping others in need. He organized charity events, volunteered at local shelters, and used his resources to make a positive impact on the community.
Dearly beloved, how do you want to measure your worth? By money in your bank account, land houses or designer’ clothes that will all perish one day? Why it is good to have riches, the Psalmist said, “A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked” (Psalm 37:16). Proverbs 15:16 (NKJV) says, “Better is a little with the fear of the LORD, than great treasure with trouble.” Paul told Timothy, “Godliness with contentment is great gain. Having food and raiment let us therewith be content.” (1 Timothy 6:6, 8).
Eventually, the once lonely and unfulfilled Benjamin became a source of inspiration for his fellow city dwellers. As the years passed, Benjamin's wealth remained, but his perspective had shifted entirely. Benjamin's story became a lesson for all who heard it, reminding them that a life well-lived is not defined by what we have, but by how we choose to embrace and cherish the people and moments that truly matter.
Today’s Recite: "Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? " - Matthew 6:25“
Today’s Morning Prayer: O God I thank You for that which You have blessed me with. I receive grace to be contented. I pray for grace to invest in helping others rather than pursuing material wealth. Bless me to bless others in need in Jesus' name. Amen!
