October 14: LIFE IS A COMPETITION, NOT A COMPARISON

LIFE IS A COMPETITION, NOT A COMPARISON

But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me. - John 5:36

Our Lord Jesus, in our focal verse, came alone and set an example of 'life is race competition not a comparison' with anyone, not even with John the Baptist.

In today's society, it is all too easy to fall into the trap of comparing our lives to others. With the rise of social media and the constant exposure to curated highlight reels of other people's lives, it is easy to believe that we are falling behind or not measuring up. However, it is essential to remember that life is not a comparison arena; it is a competition against oneself. When we constantly compare ourselves to others, we are placing our self-worth and happiness in external factors. This can lead to feelings of insecurity, inadequacy, a constant feeling of discontent and even depression.

Instead of comparing yourself to others, you should focus on competing with yourself. This means setting your own goals, benchmarking your own progress, and striving to be your personal best.  Life is not a competition against others; it is a competition against the person you were yesterday. It is a journey of self-growth and self-improvement. Embrace the journey, celebrate your victories, learn from your failures, and keep pushing yourself to become the best version of yourself. In doing so, you will find fulfilment and contentment that cannot be measured or achieved through comparisons.

Cultivate a winning (winner's) mindset. Challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone.  Winning is not an easy adventure, and it requires your dedication, diligence and determination. It requires patience and humility. Push your boundaries and unlock your full potential. Set realistic goals that align with your values and aspirations and develop skills, resilience, and good character along the way. Aim to succeed. Aim to finish every task before you. Winners never quit. A quitter never wins.

Dear friend, the true life competition is a lone race that transcends this world to the life beyond to obtain an everlasting crown; to have your name written and kept in the Book of Life; and to win a mansion in heaven. The temptation to distract or compromise you will come but you are to resist them. Your eyes must be on the crown at all times. You can do it. Have faith in God and also in yourself.

Today’s Recite: "Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead." - Philippians 3:13

Today’s Morning Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank you for a new day and a new month. I Pray for a winning spirit and zeal to obtain the best position in this life and beyond. Grant me the appetite for success. Grant oh Lord power and strength to run. I ask for grace to shun all distrations. I shall receive the crown in Jesus name I pray. Amen!

Today’s Hymn: GIVE ME LORD A DOUBLE PORTION
