October 12: AGUR'S WISE PRAYER

AGUR'S WISE PRAYER

"Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die: Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain". - Proverbs 30:7-9 (KJV)

Agur's wise prayer should be on the lips of every believer. His two prayer points are probably the most powerful prayers in the world where currently truth is under constant suppression and oppression. Lies and vanity prevail in our social media space. Youths are wrongly role-modelled by falsehood. Get-rich-quick methods now replaced hard work and patience.

Poverty is not a good thing for anyone neither is the will of God for His children. Poverty may lead to diverse temptations including denying faith and God. But the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil too, "for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (1 Timothy 6:10).

Money is important in life as it helps to procure our daily needs. But it may become an idol called mammon in people's hearts. Mammon is an idolised riches, becoming a god to its possessors who pursue money at the expense of serving God or humanity and value money above their own soul. Mammon displaces morality and righteousness from the hearts of those who love money. And when morality is eroded, evil may go unchecked.

Dear friend, beware when your heart craves to be rich; and when you are unfaithful with money management either by pilfering, stealing or embezzlement. They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare. "But thou, O man of God, flee these things." (1 Timothy 6:11).

Beloved, godliness with contentment is a great gain. Moderation is the key to a balanced life abundance. No poverty, no extreme riches. Sufficient supply from God is guaranteed when you pray in the truest of your heart to God this day.

Today’s Recite: But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. - Philippians 4:19 (KJV)

Today’s Morning Prayers:  I thank You Father for always providing my needs. Two things do I require of You today; deny me them not before I die: Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor extreme riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain. For I pray in Jesus' name. Amen!
