NOVEMBER 9: BOWELS OF MERCIES

Daily Companion  | 9 November

BOWELS OF MERCIES

"Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering: Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye." - Colossians 3:12-13.

When he sighted his long-missed brother, Benjamin, Joseph "made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep, and he entered into his chamber, and wept there" (Genesis 43:30). When King Solomon was to divide the disputed baby before the quarrelling mothers, the genuine mother's bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, "O my lord, give [the other woman] the living child, and in no wise slay it” (1 King 3:26).

The bowels of mercies react to the poor starving to death (Matthew 9:36); a debtor who is going to be sold into slavery along with his wife and children (Matthew 18:27); two blind men begging to regain their sight (Matthew 20:34); a widow mourning her son (Luke 7:13); and a traveller badly injured and presumed dead (Luke 10:33).

Being merciful is sharing another person's pains and feeling the other person's plight in one's own bowels. Apostle John queried "Whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have a need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?" (1 John 3:17). Can you say of your spouse like Solomon, "My beloved put in his hand by the hole of the door, and my bowels were moved for him?" (Song of Songs 5:4).

Beloved, mercy begets mercy. As you show compassion to others, you are not only exhibiting the nature of God, you are also attracting the goodness and mercy of God into your own life. Bowels of mercies make you forgive others easily, humble and kind. As you step out today, with compassion, share the gospel and pull out some from the brim of hell; make a difference, make a positive impact. Show mercy to your subordinates. Show mercy to those you have a rule over. Be compassionate in your official duties. As children, be merciful to your parents. Put the bowels of mercies always.

Today’s Recite: "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy." - Matthew 5:7

Today’s Morning Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for having mercy on me. I ask for more bowels of mercies within me. Grant me that grace never to shut my eyes from the plight of the needy. Make me full of passion for souls. Be merciful to me as I show mercy to others in Jesus mighty name   Amen

Today’s Hymn: Let Others See Jesus In You
