God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. - Psalms 46:1 (NKJV)
Martin Luther, a young peasant, nearly got struck by a lightning bolt during a rainstorm on a chilly, windy night in Germany in the early 1500s. After his near-death experience, he switched from studying law to studying theology. He graduated with a degree in philosophy. Luther is most known for his song "A Mighty Fortress is our God," which was composed in about 1527. It is a paraphrase of Psalm 46. The words "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" are engraved on the base of Luther's tomb. According to historians, it was sung by dying martyrs and persecuted believers as they were being sent into exile.
Life challenges, trials and temptations can be overwhelming. They may come unexpectedly, as emergencies. Tragedy may strike. You look around, and nowhere to run to. But you only need to remember that there is a God who cares and specialises in handling the most humanly overwhelming, risky and impossible situations. David said, "For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy" (Psalms 61:3). I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation (Isaiah 12:2).
Have you tried all possible options around you without a solution? Why can’t you try to look up to the Hill of the Lord, where help comes from? Is it a health, financial, or relationship emergency? El Shaddai is able. He is bigger than all the seen or unseen mountains and fears. "The LORD will not forsake his people for his great name's sake: because it hath pleased the LORD to make you his people" (1 Samuel 12:22).
Beloved, come unto the Saviour today. Christ said, "Anyone who comes to Me I will by no means cast out" (John 6:37). The Lord God is our Strong Tower, a mighty Fortress. Run to Him. Call on Him now! He will come running to save you too. Amen!
