GRIT TO SUCCEED

"This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." (Joshua 1:8)

There is a story of a young lady who wanted to a medical doctor but all odds were against her. She grew up from a poor family of 8: a daughter of a juice seller.   Preparing for what was known to be one of the toughest in the country, living in a small house with seven other members and having to help her mother with hawking fruit weren’t easy at all, but her hard work and determination helped her achieve her dream. She passed the qualifying exams. Her story is nothing short of inspiration from someone with grit to succeed.

Grit means courage and resolve or determination to achieve a goal. Someone described GRIT as having Guts, Resilience, Initiative and Tenacity. It is the strength of character: the unrelenting push until you get results. You need grit to be successful both spiritually and secularly.

The average person today wants a quick fix. We want God to do it now. But this kind of approach does not develop a good relationship with the Lord. Relationship with God, knowing Him, as with any relationship, takes time. It is this that provides us with success in life, wherever we go and in whatever we do. Success is not achieved through a quick fix. If we want to successfully inherit and dominate, we must be patient, persistent and wait on the Lord, to diligently pursue the set goals. “Wait on the LORD, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land (Psalm 37:34).

God told Joshua to be courageous and meditate on the Word of God day in-day out. That’s grit.  “To do according to all that is written therein. That’s grit. “not to turn from it”. If you are a student, you need to study day-in, day-out to with grit. Are you a skilled worker, daily repeated learning and demonstration make mastery. Like the young lady in our story today, you need such grit and determination to succeed in God’s way. It is time to succeed but first thing first. Connect to the root of success to avoid distractors. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness... (Matthew 6:33).

Today’s Recite: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)

Today’s Morning Prayers:  My God I thank You for a new day of opportunity to succeed. I pray for grace to be diligent, persistent and courageous in my vocation and study in Jesus name. Strengthen me to have grit to succeed.  I reject to be distracted from my dreams in Jesus name. Amen!
