MAMMON

“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” - Matthew 6:24

There were two jewish brothers. One was very greedy and extravagant but the other was not. After passing away of their father, the greedy brother killed his own brother and sold all their father's property and fled to London where he lavished all the monies in club, cruising, on women and with his wasteful friends. In a matter of time, all the money gone. He was deserted by his friends and women as he turned a beggar. He eventually ended his own life.

Money is important in life as it helps to procure daily needs. But it can become an idol called mammon in people's heart. Mammon is idolised riches. It displaces morality and righteousness from the hearts of those who love money. Those who love money abandon brotherhood and can kill for it. They pursue money at the expense of serving God or humanity. They value money above lives their own soul. They can decide to do money rituals even if it will cut their lives short.

Dear, the love of mammon starts when you gradually begin to miss the church services in pursuit of money; when your hearts craves to be rich; when you are unfaithful with money management either by pilfering, stealing or embezzlement. Where your treasure is, there will your heart be also (Matthew 6:21). They that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. But thou, O man of God, flee these things. (1 Timothy 6:9-11).

Beloved, you are warned, “if riches increase, set not your heart upon them (Psalm 62:10) but rather set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth .(Colossions 3:2). The Lord says to you this mornig, keep yourselves from idols. (1 John 5:21).

Today’s Recite: “My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold; and my revenue than choice silver. - Proverbs 8:19

Today’s Morning Prayers:  I thank You Father for always providing my needs. May the love of mammon not cleave to my heart. May I not be snared by riches that perishes. I will forever serve and not mammon in Jesus name. Amen!
