May 11: PLEASE, WAKE UP!

Daily Companion  |  11 May

PLEASE, WAKE UP!

“Awake to righteousness, and sin not" (1 Corinthians 15:34)

Consciousness is the state of being aware and responsive to things, issues and people around us. There are different levels of consciousness. A person may depreciate from being fully awake or conscious to drowsiness and sleepiness both from which he could be rousable or non-rousable: then from drowsiness or stupor to coma and finally to deadness. Even at each level of consciousness, there are depths of consciousness. For example, someone may be lost in thought and not respond to discussion around him despite being awake.

Consciousness is applicable to all matters physical, social and more importantly, spiritual. The higher the level of your consciousness on a matter, the higher your level of responsiveness, participation and mastery. As a student sleeps often in the class and performs poorly, so also any Christian not fully responsive to righteous living and participation in the Kingdom activities will perform poor spiritually. Just there are many medical causes of loss of consciousness, there also abound certain causes of reduction or loss in spiritual consciousness. Pleasures and cares for the things of the world (worldliness), reduction or loss of communication to God in word and prayer. spiritual accidents (e.g. falling into sin) or spiritual attacks (oppression).

Dear friend, you may use to hear God speak to you before but such is now lost or no more frequent, please wake up. You may have lost spiritual consciousness and sin may have started besetting you little by little and now, please wake up! You easily yeild to temptation, pease, awake! Awake to righteousness before it is too late. God says, “Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye have transgressed” (Ezekiel 18:31). “Lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” (James 1:21) and to remain awake, “Do not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober” (1 Thessalonians 5:5,6). Please, Wake up now!

Today’s Recite:

“It is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. (Romans 13:11,12)

Today’s Morning Prayers:  O God I come to You with my life today. Refine it. Redeem it to a worthy and godly life full of good tales to be told by men. I lay aside every hypocrisy, sinful and shameful acts. Grant me Your grace to always do good and serve You all the days of my life in Jesus name. Amen!
