July 28: LIFE IS A VAPOUR

LIFE IS A VAPOUR

“What is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. (James 4:14)

Time is the indefinite continued progress of existence and events in the past, present, and future regarded as a whole.  Therefore, as we are unsure of time because it is not constant, life is indefinite too. Surely, from the death of a neonate to that of Methuselah, life remains a vapor. “Now it happened in the process of time that the king of Egypt died.” (Exodus 2:23).

Job said, “My days are swifter than a post: they flee away.…passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle that hasteth to the prey. (Job 9:25, 26). …In the morning they are like grass which groweth up. In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up: in the evening it is cut down, and withereth” (Psalm 90:5, 6). No one knows the beginning and the end of time except God. “But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” (Matthew 24:36).

Therefore, beloved, the world is nothing but vanity, a space full of events that swiftly pass and are time-bound. Yesterday is gone forever. Today we are in need and we don’t know what tomorrow holds. What is then most important is now, right now. For in a moment, your life may be gone. What you do every now is the most important. Are you righteous now? Are you loving now? Or are lying now, are you living a fake life now? Are you faithful now? “The world passeth away, and the lust thereof. but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” (1 John 2:17).

What you must be concerned about therefore is your eternity, where there is no application of time. Eternity is timeless and infinite. And it is your life now that will determine your eternity. You need Christ to enjoy blissful eternity: that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Today’s Recite:
Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble. He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down. (Job 14:2).

Today’s Morning Prayer: Oh Lord God I thank You for the opportunity of a life now. I repent of my sinful way to receive Your eternal life. I ask for grace to utilise my time now to serve you, to be loving, faithful and righteous in Jesus name. Amen
