Feb 7: CHILDISH, FORGETFUL AND UNGRATEFUL

Daily Companion | 7 February

CHILDISH, FORGETFUL AND UNGRATEFUL

When thou hast eaten and art full, ... thou shalt bless the Lord thy God for the good land which he hath given thee. Deuteronomy 8:10.

Someday, a man was playing with some children. So, he decided to give them some biscuits and sweets and to also test their gratitude afterwards. One by one he started requesting each of them to share their biscuits back with him. He was shocked by their responses. Majority of them were not willing to part with the biscuits that he gave them just a moment before. In his words he described the experience as childish, forgetful, ungrateful.

Friend, don’t you often behave like those kids? Blessed and favoured by God, yet you cannot part a little share back to Him, childish. Remember how you sought God in tears for your new position, promotion, new property, a baby, husband, new income but in a moment you become so forgetful by not keeping His commandments, His judgments, and His statutes (Deuteronomy 8:11). Before the last journey, you were full of fear of danger, but He kept His promise to preserve your going out and your coming (Psalm 121:8)

Beloved, as the Lord will bless you again this year, beware that thou forget not the LORD thy God and that  it is He who gives you power to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8:11,18).

There are many ways you can give back to God but let us share a few (i) in charity, cheerful giving including tithes and offering (ii) by obedience to God’s word always. “Therefore, you shall keep the commandments of the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to fear Him” (Deuteronomy 8:6). (iii) by presenting your life as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God (Romans 12:1). Here is your ultimate gratitude and most reasonable service to God by accepting Him as your personal Lord and Saviour today.

Today’s Recite: Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. Psalms 103:2-5 (NKJV)

Today’s Morning Prayer: Oh Lord, I thank You for blessing me always. Pardon my past childishness and ingratitude. I confess my disobedience and dedicate my life anew as a living sacrifice to You. Give me a new heart of gratitude and giving. Fill me with grace to give cheerfully. And may the blessings of giving and gratitude be poured on me as I obey in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
