Feb 28: YOUR CONSCIENCE IS GOD’S WITNESS

Daily Companion  |  28 February

YOUR CONSCIENCE IS GOD’S WITNESS

Who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them. Romans 2:12,15 (NKJV)

The conscience is known as "a person's moral sense of right and wrong, or a state of awareness that one's actions or intentions are either morally right or wrong." This awareness within everyone could also come along with a feeling of obligation to do the right thing. Some describe conscience as the voice of God in man. Since man may choose not to obey such voice, “speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron” (1 Timothy 4:2), conscience undoubtedly remains an indelible witness. “The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD, Searching all the inner depths of his heart.” (Proverbs 20:27).

Conscience is so powerful that it can become a witness in third party actions. The conscience plays a significant role in repentance and restitution. Conscience can convict and condemn. Like the men whom Jesus appealed to their conscience, “…and being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last.” (John 8:9). Conscience convicted Adam and Eve. And they heard the sound of the LORD God and…hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God” (Genesis 3:8). All your intentions, motives, and actions towards God and others are open within your conscience. Though sometimes kept suppressed, conscience never dies. A good conscience is alive and active.

Dear friend, a good conscience is powered by the Spirit and set by the Word. Keeping God's Word in your heart will train your conscience to sound the alarm and keep you from sin, and “have a conscience without offense toward God and men” (Acts 24:16). You can make good use of the conscience today through sincere repentance and restitution.  “To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” (James 4:17).

Today’s Recite: Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. - (Psalm 139:23, 24)

Today’s Morning Prayer: Heavenly Father, I thank You for a new day. I open up my heart before you to search me and see if there be any wrong action or offence toward You and anyone. I repent from every hypocrisy, and suppression of the conscience. Send Your Spirit to me, to keep my conscience void of offence. I pray for those around me that You do same for them in Jesus mighty name.  Amen

Today’s Hymn: Search Me O God
