PEACE, BE STILL. IT IS I
When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet. Proverbs 3:24
Jesus had gone to have prayer vigil. About the fourth watch of the night (between 3:00am and 6:00am), Peter and other disciples were on the ship in the middle of the tempestuous sea. Jesus finished his prayer and decided to walk on the sea to join them. Already terrified by the storm, seeing a ‘ghost’ walking on the sea scared them the more. “But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.” Matthew 14:27
There are many storms of life that will continue to blow. Most storms are not humans fault, they are natural and inevitable. It is also natural to be scared. But, as believers, today’s lesson tells us that, in the midst of the storm, chaos there is always Jesus Christ. He is the Lord over the storms and turmol. In another occasion, “there arose a great storm of wind… And he [Jesus Christ] was in…the ship…asleep” (Mark 4:37, 38). Make no mistake to think God seems not to care about the raging storm. He does care but He only acts when you are calm.
Beloved, what wind or storm is it that is blowing into your health, family, career, finances or spiritual life? They may have come from socioeconomic storm in the country, political tension, spiritual whirlwind that you have no control over. They seem to have taken away your sleep, sleeping with one eye open, or a little sleep is full of nightmares. People’s hearts may be failing. Hear the instruction from the Lord this day: Take your eyes off the storm, calm down and look for Jesus. He says, Be still, and know that I am God… Psalms 46:10).
Repent and be converted if not already done so. Have faith or ask for more of it. Ask the storm Calmer to takeover. Be thankful and rejoice because there is victory ahead. Next time you feel any storm, remember, Jesus is there as the Calmer. He giveth his beloved sleep. (Psalm 127:2). And you then say, I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety (Psalm 4:8)
Today’s Recite: Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6, 7).
Today’s Morning Prayer: Oh Lord, I thank You for being the Calmer of every storm. I ask You to takeover every storm around me today. Grant Your grace and faith to see You always. I repel spirit of fear and receive the spirit of sound mind today and forever in Jesus’ name. Amen
