Feb 18: ADAM’S OR GOD’S LIKENESS?

ADAM’S OR GOD’S LIKENESS?

And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. - Genesis 5:3 (NKJV)

The basis for all being born sinners is what our topic today focuses on: likeness (also known as nature or character). In resemblance, two factors are considered: image and likeness. Image is the figure, look or picture of resemblance. Whereas likeness is the character, nature, or behaviour in resemblance. When God created Adam, He created him in God’s image and likeness. But after Adam ate the forbidden fruit, sin entered Adam and he lost the likeness of God: though retaining God’s image. Adam started bearing children after his own likeness (Adam’s nature) what some call ‘adamic nature’.

It is natural to resemble our parents in look or character. Scientists tell us that Genes are inherited from both mother and father. Hence, sin was inherited from Adam and Eve. By one man sin entered into the world.... by one man's disobedience many were made sinners (Romans 5:12, 19). David said, Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me (Psalm 51:5). Paul also affirmed all as dead in trespasses and sins; …sons of disobedience ...and …by nature the children of wrath, even as others. (Ephesians 2:1-3). Job 14: 4 says, Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean?

So, how can we then change from adamic nature to divine nature? (i) You must be born second time (John 3:3-5): but this time by God Himself and not your own parents. And thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57). Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV). Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 1 John 3:9 (KJV). (ii) You must be sanctified. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication: (1 Thessalonians 4:3).

Today’s Recite: If through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. Romans 5:15

Today’s Morning Prayer: O God I thank You for the Jesus Christ who died for my sin. I humble myself to receive Your divine nature through salvation and sanctification. Help me to maintain my heirship with You. Keep me from all temptations and deliver from all evil today in Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen.
