HIS CHOICE OF PRECIOUS ORNAMENTS AND JEWELRIES

Let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. - 1 Peter 3:4

At a time in the land of Babylon, a king decided to appoint a new queen. Applications were requested from interested virgins in the land. Afterwards, the shortlisted virgins would need undertake 12 months of beauty treatments called purification before they could appear before the king. Esther, a fair and beautiful Jew virgin was among those shortlisted. When it was her turn to appear before the king, she took nothing to impress the king except that which was suggested to her. She was favoured and chosen. This account is in Esther chapters 1 and 2.

We are expected to appear someday before God, the King of kings as a purified virgin: whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel (1 Peter 3:3). Our God has taste, specifications, preferences. No amount jewelries or cosmetics can impress God. He has His own choice of precious ornaments.

Like king Ahasuerus, God first preference is a virgin. Are you virgin? You need Jesus the ointment poured forth (Song 1:3). He is an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour (Ephesians 5:2) to present you as a chaste virgin to Christ (2 Corinthians 11:2).

The second is purification: holiness without which no man shall see the Lord (Hebrew 12:14). Do you wear the beauty of His holiness? Sanctification gives you the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit as we read in our focal verse. Esther and others spent 12 months purifying themselves. Our holiness will be for a lifetime till we are called to appear before the King of kings. How much of God’s ornaments do you wear?

Lastly, you must have faith which in the sight of God is more precious than gold that perishes (1 Peter 1:7). Esther appeared with nothing but her faith; and without faith it impossible to please God (Hebrew 12:6).

Today’s Recite: Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner. (1 Peter 2:7)

Today’s Morning Prayer: Heavenly Father I thank You for today’s lesson. I accept Jesus as my precious ornament. Purify me and increase my faith which is more precious than gold. Make me Your chaste and preferred virgin in Jesus mighty name I pray. Amen
