But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:4
One day, Ruth Graham was driving through a long traffic caused by an ongoing road construction. There were unpleasant but inevitable holdups, slowdowns, and diversions. At last, she finally reached the end of the traffic paving for a smooth road. But something caught her attention at the end of the road construction. It was a road sign: “End of Construction, Thank You for Your Patience”. On getting home, she told her husband Billy Graham that someday she would love to have those words sculptured on her tombstone.
Dear friends, our lives here on earth are under construction until we breathe our last. As you start your journey in Christ, so there bound to be times of unpleasant experiences. These are to help our growth, development, and maturity. Life traffic may hold you up or even slow you down. Some inevitable diversions, rerouting may be necessary along the journey. There could be delay in marriage, childbearing, school admission, or gainful employment. Life requires us to be patient as we cruise on. It is not helpful to murmur, become impatient or strive with God because of detours or delays along the way.
Remember, “Woe to him who strives with his Maker!’ (Isaiah 45:9). But …we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).
Beloved, we are God’s masterpiece under construction …it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but…we shall be like Him. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure (1 John 3:2-3).
Finally, we are to be resilient, patient, understanding, believing and peaceful. And the God of peace…make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen! (Hebrews 13:20-21)
