DECEMBER 31: NOT A MAN OF US IS MISSING

Daily Companion  | 31 December

NOT A MAN OF US IS MISSING (NO SOLDIER LEFT BEHIND)

And they said to Moses, “Your servants have taken a count of the men of war who are under our command, and not a man of us is missing. - Numbers 31:49

During World War II, a military medic, Desmond Doss was known for his bravery both in faith and at war front. Desmond Doss became one of the most renowned warriors of World War II while refusing to fire a gun during the Battle of Okinawa, he saved 75 men. Not only did Doss not leave a single soldier behind, but he also, rather miraculously, managed to survive the war despite sustaining several significant injuries at other instances.

Doss story reechoes today's key verse during Israel's war against the Midianites. At the end of the war, there was an headcount and none was missing. This does not preclude no one died but it means all were men of valour and not victims of war.

A missing soldier is worse than a dead soldier. A missing soldier could have joined the enemy camp. Some other soldiers could loose their lives in search of a missing soldier. Hence it is more costly and detrimental to the Army to have a missing soldier. A missing soldier is like a backslided Christian, absent without official leave (AWOL), or deserting his faith and Christ.

During the year ending today, many battles have been fought spiritually and socioeconomically. Christ stood by His people as He always does. As Christ died on the cross to save the entire human race, we may have lost some loved ones sacrificially to life battle too. But most of all, it is worth celebrating none is missing in the kingdom of God and of His Jesus Christ.

Be your brother and sister's keeper. Look out for your loved ones today. Be like Desmond Doss. See to it that you and your fellow companions are not missing in the Kingdom of God as the year ends to usher in a new one.

Today’s Recite:  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life… shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:39-39

Today’s Morning Prayers: Oh Lord God, we thank You for being by our side all through the year. We thank You for your mercy and grace. We ask that as the year ends today, none in our household and Your church shall be missing from Your kingdom in Jesus name. Amen!
