INNOCENT UNTIL...

“Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.” - John 9:41 (KJV)

A Christian woman once narrated her ordeal with demons. Out of curiosity about the reality of demons, she embarked on fasting and praying for God to open her eyes to see what demons look like. One afternoon, as she was seated in her living room, she saw ugly and foul demons, everywhere, on the seats, and dining table. The one that scared her most was demons riding on a high-speed rotating ceiling fan. And immediately she prayed to God to remove the vision from her. This experience is a literal meaning of a Yoruba adage, “Bi oju eni ba maa la, a ri iyonu” (If one is exposed to this world, he should prepare to face ordeals.)

This is the reality of sin. You are innocent until you are exposed. The Pharisees claimed they were enlightened but that was their doom. “But now ye say, 'We see'. Therefore your sin remaineth.” Many have made shipwreck of their faith by the sudden exposure to enlightenment or civilization above what their understanding could cope with. Adam and Eve were innocent until they ate the forbidden fruit. Demas forsook the gospel and other co-workers when he got exposed to worldliness. You are innocent until you set the sinful or unholy scenes before your eyes (e.g. pornographies, ungodly dresses and dances on screens etc). You are no longer innocent but guilty.

Dear friend, the problem with this “seeing” is not just in the guilt or loss of your innocence but the ultimate sentence to spiritual blindness and death by God. And Jesus said, “For judgment, I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.” (John 9:39). It leads to complete alienation from God’s will and Spirit. But there is only one solution to this - JESUS CHRIST. He is our vision. Let Christ be your eyes. Have a singleness of heart. Allow God’s will to prevail in your life. Stop your eyes from watching evil. Refuse to allow civilisation to stand between you and God. Be patient and always seek His will in all that you do and you shall not be blind nor guilty in Jesus' name. Amen!

Today’s Recite:  “But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!” - Matthew 6:23

Today’s Morning Prayer: Thank You Jesus for coming to the world to open my eyes. I don't want my open to evil but Your light. Not to worldliness and perversions but Your righteousness. I accept You fully into my life and heart even as I surrender to Your will. Amen!
