And stay ye not, but pursue after your enemies, and smite the hindmost of them; suffer them not to enter into their cities: for the LORD your God hath delivered them into your hand. (Joshua 10:19)
Martial law is typically imposed during times of war, uprising, or natural disaster and entails the temporary substitution of civilian administration with military rule. The military commander of a region or nation has unrestricted power.
Under the command of Joshua in Joshua chapter 10, the enemies were pursued and executed. But today, we do not fight against flesh and blood, but against principalities, …powers, …rulers of the darkness, and spiritual hosts of wickedness (Ephesians 6:12). Our enemies today are not humans, your neighbours or colleagues but the unseen adversaries and must be declared war upon.
When the enemies threaten your territory, your peace and your existence, you may evoke martial law. You fight without sentimentality or mercy against spirits that threaten your holiness, prosperity and position in God’s kingdom. You declare war against besetting sins and worldliness that may make you at loggerheads with your God. Crush the enemies threatening to send you back to sin and poverty. This is a good fight; a necessary and God-approved battle. It is suicidal to be complacent or leave the fight uncompleted. God warned that, if ye will not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you;... those which ye let remain of them shall be pricks in your eyes, and thorns in your sides, and shall trouble you in the land in which ye dwell (Number 33:35).
Dear comrades, declare martial laws on the enemies with appropriate weapons, not in the flesh, not physical. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal [physical], but mighty through God (2 Corinthians 10:4). Therefore, declare war against the enemies of your soul and success. Take up the whole armour of God, which starts with the salvation of your soul - it is your helmet. Other parts of the weapon include the truth, righteousness; preaching the gospel of peace; faith, and the sword of the Spirit - the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit. Ephesians 6:13-18.
Today’s Recite: Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. (Luke 10:19)
Today’s Morning Prayers: Oh Lord, I thank You for Your armour which You have made ready for me. I take up Your whole armour today. I hereby declare martial law against the enemies that threatened my prosperity, purity and peace. Grant me the power and authority needed to fight the good fight. Help me to be truthful. Grant me the grace to carry the gospel of peace about, to fight for others. Empower me with Your sword. I therefore refuse to back out in this fight in Jesus’ name. Amen!
