BE WISE WHEN YOU ARE WEAK

Bible Reading: Isaiah 39:1-8
And Hezekiah was pleased with them, and showed them the house of his treasures—the silver and gold, the spices and precious ointment, and all his armory—all that was found among his treasures. There was nothing in his house or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them. - Isaiah 39:2

Communicating with someone during their ailing or recovery period could significantly show how much you care and love them. The most impactful thing you can do for them is to be physically present with them, support them through their weak mental health and assure them they are never alone. In fact, visitors can help people recover faster, and also help reduce their anxiety and stress.

Hezekiah had just a terrible sickness. and divinely healed. The prince of Babylon took the advantage of this, sent a greeting card, and above all, paid the king a physical visit. Ordinarily, such a gesture could win anyone’s heart. Hezekiah took for granted the wiles of the enemy coupled with his show-off attitude. Pride is any attitude that elevates our efforts or abilities above God’s, or that makes us to treat with disdain his work in us. Rather than show-casing his  God’s healing power and convert an idolatrous babylonian, he chose the foolish attitude of taking full credit for what had happened, showcasing his riches, defence strengths and secrets.

The tragic consequence of Hezekiah’s silly mistake was Israel being taken to the captivity. Hezekiah was self-centred and his life showed a little evidence of planning for the future and protecting the spiritual heritage he enjoyed.

Beloved, a wise person should not take every gift or welcome every visitor. Beware of sympathizers in your weak moment. Don’t abandon your old friends because a stranger appears to care more; he may be planning your doom. It also teaches us to be discernible; to pray on every important decision; to seek wise counsels before taking some decisions; not to allow unknown persons to cross some boundaries in your life or family’s. Above all, do not be egocentric in pursuance of a goal, rather think of the implications on others’ welfare and their future.

Today’s Recite:  For by wise counsel you will wage your own war, and in a multitude of counselors there is safety. - Proverbs 24:6

Today’s Morning Prayers: O Lord I thank You for a new day and a new month. I ask for divine strength and wisdom in my weak moments. Help me never to lose gaze on the Hill of the Lord from whence comes my help and unfailing support in the time of need. I receive grace and wisdom never to let You or my generation down in Jesus mighty name. Amen!
