WILL GOD ALSO WAKE YOU UP?

Bible passage: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18

Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.

- 1 Thessalonians 4:17 (NKJV)

A little girl had just lost her mother to breast cancer and she was told her mother was gone to sleep in the Lord. The following conversation occurred between her and her father on their way home from the burial.

The girl: “Why do dead people sleep in the grave?”

Dad: Because they are dead, can’t breathe, and can’t talk.

The girl: Will mummy still wake up?

Dad: Dead people are laid in the grave where they remain and never come back.

The girl: But Jesus came back after three days.

Dad: Yes, because God woke him up from the grave.

The girl: Will God also wake mummy up?

Dad: (paused for a moment before he could finally answer) Yes, but not after three days like Jesus. It may take a long time. Only God can decide how long.

What a thought provoking question from the little girl! “Will God also wake mummy up?” At the resurrection day, will God also wake daddy up? Will God wake you, dear reader, up? Remember, similar conversation ensued between Christ and Martha when his brother Lazarus died. Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.” (John 11:23). Martha's thought was on the resurrection in the last day because she believed. The resurrection day awaits every believer, dead or alive. This hope was reaffirmed by Paul in his First letter to the Thessalonians. “For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14).

Dear friend, the resurrection day is for everyone who believes in Christ Jesus unto salvation; who has accepted Christ as personal Lord and Saviour. It is a promised immortality to all the children of God. God affirms this immortality to every believer in Christ (John 3:16). This is the hope you have. It should excite you at every remembrance of it. Such hope dispels sorrows and mourning over a believer who has gone to sleep in the Lord. The question now is, “are you a true believer?” Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”  (John 11:25-26).

Today’s Recite:  “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:1,3)

Today’s Morning Prayers:  Heavenly Father, I thank You for the promise of immortality. I believe in Your resurrection power. I receive Christ life. I am immortal in Christ. I live to glorify You. I renounce sin and sinful world. Grant me Your grace to remain fit for the resurrection day in Jesus Name. Amen!
