“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 1 John 2:1 (NKJV)
When someone breaks the law intentionally or unintentionally, before judgment is an arrest. And some may require being kept in the police custody or prison pending trials. Following their arrest, they may choose to engage the service of a lawyer who may file for a temporary bail if a bailable offense has been committed. So is every sinner who has broken God’s law.
Every sinner is under the arrest, prison or custody of Satan who patrols the earth to and fro seeking a breaker of God’s law to catch. A self-appointed ‘police’ and the accuser of the believers, but he’s very cunning and corrupt. He baits the unsuspecting souls with temptations for them to fall into sin. Every sinner is on the awaiting trial till the jugdment day. Some sinners die and sent to hell from the devil’s custody.
But there is a righteous and reliable Advocate who, not only ready to plead for the release of any sinner but, can as well pay for their debts or crimes. His name is Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God who was cruxified, rose again and now “lives to make intercession” (Hebrew 7:25). He is a Mediator who has never lost a case except those who fail to seek His help (1 Timothy 2:5). “Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, ...but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God” the great Judge (Hebrew 9:24).
Dear Friend, as from our focal verse today, it is better to avoid sin, as it may be too late to call on the Advocate before Satan (the executioner, killer and destroyer) lays hold of your life. “If anyone sins”, he may call on Jesus for salvation. Christ however comes with His terms and conditions. You must have faith in Him (John 3:16). You must sincerely confess and forsake all known sins (Proverbs 28:13). You do not hide anything from a lawyer, so you must never hide any sin this righteous Advocate, Jesus Christ (1 John 1:8). What are you waiting for? Call on the righteous advocate now!
