April 29: SHOCK ABSORBER

Daily Companion  |  29 April

SHOCK ABSORBER

“They confronted me in the day of my calamity, but the LORD was my support”  (Psalms 18:18)

Shocks and disappointments are part of life. It is normal to be disappointed. Disappointments are sometimes unavoidable. In fact, it shouldn’t be avoided. From childhood, we must learn how to deal with small disappointments so that when faced with more challlenging disappointments in adulthood, adequate skills, shock absorbers and support who have been developed to deal with them. One of those adaptive mechanisms is to develop a shock absorber to life’s rude shocks and disappointments. Those who lack these skills are worse hit by unpleasant life experiences and end up in avoidable emotional breakdown. No one should be down because of any unpleasant happening in life. Rather than attaching with anyone or anything who can as well disappoint, attach with God. When everything else fails, He is the sure Shock Absorber.

David had experienced several disappointments, dejections and denials. But he had developed a strong shock absorber in the Lord over the years, not in man. “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower” (Psalm 18:2). The people were strengthened by king Hezekiah’s words when the Assyrian king laid siege on them: “With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the LORD our God, to help us and to fight our battles”

Dear friend, when life hits you hard, there is a Shock Absorber, the Lord God Almighty is His name. Instead of being cast down, “Cry out and shout” to Him.  “For great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst” (Isaiah 12:6). “The righteous cry, and the LORD hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles” (Psalm 34:7,17). All the Lord requires from you is your obedience and trust in Him. Let God only be your fear and your dread. Make Him your Pillar of support always. And remember that “the angel of the LORD encamps around them that fear him, and delivers them (Isaiah 12:6), so you can say boldly, “the Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” (Hebrew 13:6).

Today’s Recite: For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God? It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. (Psalm 18:31,32).

Today’s Morning Prayers:  My God I thank You for being available for me in the day of my shocks and disappointments. I trust in You. Be my strength and support in times of need. Never leave me O Lord. In every difficult situation, make me come out victorious, stronger and higher in Jesus name! Amen!
