April 23: GOD’S PERSONAL NAME

GOD’S PERSONAL NAME

“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.” (Revelation 4:8).

A very inquisitive young boy once asked his father, “who is God?” Yes, God must have a personal name. The father quickly remembered Jacob asking God same question, “What is your name?” But God did’nt answer him until Moses asked many years later. Not that Moses didn’t know Him as God (we probably all do too). But every time we miss His personal name because it is so simple. He had earlier told Moses, “I AM the God of thy father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob” (Exodus 3:6). So God had to spell it out to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, I AM has sent me to you”. (Exodus 3:14).”

So many names we call God today are descriptive but God hasn’t not given Himself too many names. Or has He? His name is simply I AM HOLY. That seems like a full name now. For I AM the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be HOLY; for I AM HOLY (Leviticus 11:44). The word, HOLY, now appears to be surname: meaning God simply saying, “if you want to share a name (HOLY) with me, you must sanctify yourself.” The word HOLY is more than an attribute, it is God’s name.

Beloved, there is no better way to know God than to be HOLY too, bearing your Father’s name. God draws His power and majesty from His HOLY name. His sgnature is HOLY. Everything about Him is HOLY. His abode is HOLY even as His Spirit is HOLY. His word is HOLY. His countenance is HOLY. Those who know God know that He is occupied in purity and overwhelmingly clothed in the beauty of Holiness.  David knew God by name, “Thou art HOLY”, “He is HOLY. (Psalm 22:3; 99:3). Prophet Isaiah constantly addressed God as the “Holy One” (Isaiah 40:25) and God Himself confirmed this in one of the most expository chapters in Isaiah, “AM the LORD thy God, the Holy One O Israel, thy Saviour. I, even I, AM the LORD; and beside me there is no Saviour (Isaiah 43:3,11). The apostles knew God well too, “As He which hath called you is HOLY, so be ye HOLY in all manner of conversation; because it is written, be ye HOLY; for I AM HOLY. (1 Peter 1:15,16).

Today’s Recite:  Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands, having this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” - 2 Timothy 2:19 (NKJV)

Today’s Morning Prayers: My heavenly Father, I thank You for calling me to be HOLY as You are, so as to worship You in the beauty of Holiness. Sanctify me today to become HOLY as you are. Purify my heart. Let the power of holiness clothe me as I praise and serve You. Keep me pure till I see You face to face in Jesus name. Amen!

Today’s Hymn: HOLY, HOLY, HOLY
