WALK WITH GOD

And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. - Genesis 5:24 (NKJV)

There is an adage which says, “show me your friend and I will tell you who you are”. This is so true because the people you walk with have strong and significant influence on your character, career, and christian living. Scientists have also established that humans are imitating creatures. What you see or hear people do are easily copied and imitated. As babies begin to grow, they learn from the creatures around them. And this is how learned behaviours are developed. In similar fashion, we can imitate God.

A person will often imitate another person but we can choose to imitate God. An example was Enoch. “Enoch walked with God”. (Genesis 5:22). Enoch chose to spend more of his life’s time following and fellowshipping with God. He adherently associated with God to the extent that God also decided to walk him to heaven. There is an indisputable report that Enoch started behaving like God, doing and saying things exactly like God. And this pleased God. Such experience is still possible today if you choose to.

How great will it be to start imitating the nature of God in words and deeds! It will be an awesome experience. But imitating the nature or habit of God will require you meet Him first. Every friendship always starts at a first encounter, or meeting: an initial point of agreement to be friends. “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” (Amos 3:3). Such encounter that can draw the attention of heaven and God in particular is your conversion from an alienated sinner to a saint. You only simply confess your sins and ask God to cleanse them by the blood of Christ, and ask for grace to forsake them and follow God henceforth.

“ Having made peace through the blood of Jesus, “you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works”, the next step will be to know God more and more and “to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in His sight.” (Colossians 1:20-22). This is achieved through bilateral communication. The easiest way for God to speak is through His Word,  the Holy Bible. And the easiest way to speak to God is through prayer. Reading the bible day and night to do what is written there will gradually grow to God physically speaking to you.

Thirdly, walking with God is fellowshipping with God. “Our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3). Daily early morning devotion and evening meditations are good ways to start. Attending weekly church services where you learn more of God are very essential. And lastly, such walk with God requires constantly following Him, working for Him, doing His bids, promoting and implementing His agenda in the world.

Today’s Recite:  Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me" (Matthew 16:24).

Today’s Morning Prayers: O Lord I thank You for a new exposition to be like You. Grant me Your grace to deny myself to walk with You. I want to know You more and more and do things like You. Let my behaviour today reflect my walk with You in Jesus name. Amen!
