“Honour the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase.” - Proverbs 3:9
After 35 meritorious years in public service, Mr David retired as a school principal and was to be honoured for bringing transformational development to the school. He had initiated an innovative way of learning for students that made them passed their GSCE with ease. He was honoured with gifts and a beautiful plaque.
All over the world, persons like Mr. David are being honoured with gifts, not by mere praises alone, for the good and great things they have done to help humanity, for academic excellence, or exceptional performance in sports, etc. Institutions and governments may honour distinguished individuals with special titles and attached cash gifts and privileges. Sometimes contributions are made by groups to honour persons with cash, car, or even house gifts.
Doesn’t our God deserve similar or even much more honour for all the wonderful, excellent and marvelous things He has done and will still do for us? He forgives you all your sins. He paid all your eternal debts. He sacrificed His life for you to live. Because of Him, you breathe and prosper. Because of Him, you are guarded by angels to keep you from harms. He gives you intellect and energy with which you even work everyday to make earnings, to make wealth. for it is He who gives you power to get wealth...” (Deuteronomy 8:18).
Beloved, God deserves to be honoured by offering your wealth, substance and possessions (not only money). Offering is honuring God and His work on humanity: His church. Honour God through the His church with your cash, car, land, house, and above all, your life. The habit of giving back to God must be cultivated. Interestingly, unlike men, when you honour God with your substances or possessions, He gives back by multiplying your resources the more, “So your barns will be filled with plenty, and your presses shall burst out with new wine” (Proverbs 3:10). Then the chain effects leads to your increasing and unending wealth; and honouring God becomes sowing. “He which soweth [honour] sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth [honour] bountifully shall reap also bountifully. (2 Corinthians 9:6). Start honouring God generously, even from that little.
Today’s Recite: Upon the first day of the week let every one of you lay by him in store, as God hath prospered him. (1 Corinthians 16:2)
Today’s Morning Prayers: My heavenly Father, I thank You for giving me so much to possess. Forgive me for not honouring You enough with my substance. I repent of this today. I receive grace to honour You and your cause on earth generously from today and forever in Jesus name. Amen!
